About Michael
A Strategic Leadership Partner Who Has Been In Your Shoes
I know how isolating it can feel at the top. You're expected to have the answers, while the challenges are messy, political, and genuinely hard to navigate alone.
I've sat in that chair. Before founding CxO Amplify, I spent more than a decade as a Senior Executive Partner at Gartner, advising many dozens of C-level leaders across industries. Before that, I was a CIO myself - facing the same pressures, competing priorities, and impossible trade-offs you live with every day.
Here's what I've learned from all of it: the presenting problem is rarely the real problem. Leaders are smart and self-aware - but when you're deep inside a complex organization, it's genuinely hard to see what's generating the noise. My instinct is always to slow down, ask better questions, and find the one thing that - if you fix it - tends to fix a lot of other things too. That's how I'm wired - and it's the philosophy behind everything I do.
Over time, the Gartner client load kept growing, leaving us less and less time to spend on each relationship - shifting them increasingly toward the transactional. At CxO Amplify I work with a deliberately small number of clients - because I can actually do the work with you, not just advise from a distance. That means rolling up my sleeves on real problems, building analysis tailored to your context, and being a genuine thought partner at every stage.
What drives me isn't just the technology. It never really was. Technology is the vehicle - the point has always been the people. When a leader finds clarity and moves forward, it doesn't just change their organization. It changes the lives of the people who work there. That's the impact I'm after.
HOW I WORK
A Different Kind of Advisory Relationship
More than advice. More than a retainer. A genuine working partnership.
01
Start with the Real Problem
Every engagement begins with a diagnostic - not a conversation about what you think the issue is, but a structured process to uncover what's actually driving it. The diagnostic is the starting point, not the deliverable. What comes after is where the real work begins.
02
Think together, not for you
I'm not a consultant who disappears to write a report and then moves on. I build frameworks, create analysis tailored to your situation, and help you think through the hardest decisions - but you and your team own the execution. My job is to make sure you're solving the right problem in the right sequence, with the clarity and confidence to move forward.
03
Always in your corner
Flat fee. Ongoing relationship. No clock running. Whether you need a sounding board before a board presentation, a framework for a decision your team is stuck on, or someone to pressure-test your thinking at 9pm on a Tuesday - I'm there. That's the model.

Beyond the Work
THE PERSON
I'm a proud Virginian - born in London to an Air Force family that moved often enough to teach me that roots are something you grow, not something you're given.
I've spent years on a bicycle - riding every major Colorado mountain pass in both directions. These days I'm more likely to be found on skis, having skied millions of feet of vertical across Colorado, Utah, Vermont, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia. Whistler, British Columbia is my favorite place on the planet - we've made it a family destination several times and it never disappoints.
Photography has been a constant throughout my life. Architecture, nature, sports, the moments in between - I shoot whatever moves me. Some of my black and white prints hang in the JW Marriott and Mayflower hotels in Washington DC. A lot of my recent work follows my son on the football field and soccer pitch.
Earlier in life I sang more than 25 concerts at the Kennedy Center - one of those experiences that stays with you long after it ends.
The thread that runs through all of it is the same one that runs through my work: I believe in making a positive difference in the lives of other people.
I'm an ambassador for World Bicycle Relief and have raised over $60,000 to put girls on bicycles so they can get to school in Africa. It's a small thing that changes everything for the people it reaches. That's the same reason I do this work.
"What I value most about Michael is his ability to balance respect with candor. He's unafraid to challenge assumptions, ask tough questions, and push conversations to a more strategic level. I often left our discussions with greater clarity and perspective. He earned his place as one of my most trusted advisors."
